“If you give a man a fish, it will feed him for a day,but if you show him how to fish, it will feed him for the rest of his life”.
Our mission is that ALL children be given the same opportunity that will promote and support their natural desire to acquire skills and knowledge. It is our desire to help each child flourish and thrive using their own supernatural gifts that will ultimately become their gift to the world. This is done in one-on-one and/or group settings, online and/or in-person, using different didactic tools to stimulate all five senses.
At Journey to Reading, a young child learns to read simple words as early as 3 years of age or younger. Upon completion, the average child often advances to a grade or two levels ahead in reading when they enter public or regular school. The length of the program varies from child to child.
Every child is different and has their own supernatural gift. At Journey to Reading, we take into account the developmental stages. We hone in on the sensitive phase, which is especially important because that is when a child shows readiness. During this process, we activate all five senses by introducing practical and didactic materials that stimulate the child’s sensory styles of learning: kinesthetic (body movement, hands-on, and sense of touch), visual (spatial understanding, images, and pictures), olfactory (sense of smell), auditory (sound and musical), and verbal (using words).
Understanding the child’s state of mind before starting an activity is equally important. Emotional instability (ex. hungry or upset) can hinder a child’s ability to focus on activities. A child must be in a balanced mental state to allow stimuli to direct the child through subsequent development stages. We don’t begin until a child feels satisfied and back in their happy mind and body states. We recognize like grown-ups, children have bad days or moments. We are sensitive to these moments and take them into account through the journey of learning to read.
Ten percent (10%) of profits go towards a low income sponsored child’s education. We want to give every child the gift of reading that our program offers. No child should be left behind.
